Police are probing a shooting that left a 25-year-old man shot on the street outside Chicago O'Hare International Airport in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A spokesperson for the Chicago Police Department told Paste BN that officers responded to an altercation involving several individuals near Terminal 2.
During the incident, which occurred minutes before 1 a.m., a shooting occurred, resulting in the male victim suffering "two gunshot wounds to the lower body," police said in a statement.
He was taken to a local hospital and is considered to be in stable condition. Detectives are currently interviewing a second individual linked to the incident.
Witnesses were scared, heard shots
A witness at the scene described her horror to a local outlet when she found out what was happening. Raquel Barajas told WPIV-TV that she was sleeping when a bullet hit a window.
"I was terrified, so I honestly, these ear plugs saved my life," she added. "Getting up would have made me more scared and put me in a worse scenario, so I'm just really grateful to be alive right now."
Another person staying at a nearby hotel told FOX 32 that he heard "a bunch of single shots."
