Michigan shooting suspect in custody after injuring one at Beaumont Troy hospital

A suspect was taken into custody Thursday following a shooting at a hospital in Michigan that left at least one person injured.
Police were called to the Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital shortly after 7 a.m. by hospital security for the shooting, Troy Police Department Lt. Ben Hancock said during a morning news conference. A 25-year-old man from Troy was struck twice in the arm as an estimated five shots were fired. His car was also struck.
Hancock said the person shot was in stable condition following the shooting. Not long after the morning news conference, the Troy Police Department said on social media that the suspect was in custody and that the hospital was in the midst of returning to normal operations.
Police believe the incident was targeted and took place between two employees of Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital in a parking garage at the health system campus, Hancock said.
Local schools and day cares were placed in a soft lockdown, Hancock said. The hospital also went on lockdown "out of an abundance of caution" and one victim was being treated in the emergency department, Corewell Health said in a statement to Paste BN during the search.
"Patients with services scheduled should not come to the hospital at this time. Patients may call the department where they were scheduled for service directly," the statement said. "No other information is available at this time."
Helicopters and K-9 units searched the area and investigators searched the hospital but did not believe the suspect was there. Officials asked the public to avoid the area during the search.
Among the responding agencies were the Michigan State Police and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to social media posts from the agencies.
