A man is arrested in Hawaii. He's accused of trying to kill his wife on a hiking trail.

Police in Honolulu, Hawaii, arrested a man they say attempted to murder his wife on a hiking trail on Monday.

Honolulu Police announced that Gerhardt Konig was taken into custody following a "brief foot pursuit" near a highway. Konig is a doctor, according to ABC News, CNN, Hawaii News Now, and other outlets.

The arrest came after the department labeled Konig, 46, as a person of interest and asked the public for help tracking him down. He is accused of attempting to push his wife off the Pali Lookout on O'ahu on Monday morning.

Police allege that Konig also "struck her in the head," according to a news release. The wife was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

According to police, the charges against him are pending. Paste BN reached out to Honolulu Police for more information.

Incident happened after wife did not want to take picture, report says

According to HawaiiNewsNow, citing law enforcement sources, the incident happened after Konig's wife declined to take a picture with him, adding that he also allegedly tried to prick her with syringes.

According to the outlet's reporting and LinkedIn, he previously worked as an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

In Hawaii, Konig is an employee at Maui Health, and according to the outlet, he has been suspended due to the police investigation.
