Fatal storms swept across the U.S., leaving behind damaged homes and devastation for residents in the affected states to clean up.

After a week when states across the South were bombarded with severe storms and tornadoes, more than three million people, from Texas to Illinois, faced the risk of powerful storms and the possibility of tornadoes on Friday.

Storms on Friday left eight people dead, including a 9-year-old boy who was swept away by floodwaters in Kentucky while walking to the school bus, according to police.

The deaths were reported in Tennessee, Indiana, Missouri and Kentucky.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings extended to Sunday morning in Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois and Louisiana.
