Police in Minnesota said they took a person into custody after what they described as a “large police presence” at the headquarters of UnitedHealthcare.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Minnetonka Police Department said that a person was taken into custody outside of the health provider's headquarters.

“A suspect outside of United Healthcare has been placed into custody without incident. There is no threat to the public. We are continuing to clear the scene at this time,” police said.

Apart from mentioning the police presence and the detainment, police did not mention what prompted the large response on Monday. The incident at UnitedHealthcare's headquarters reflects growing dissatisfaction with the U.S. healthcare system.

Other incidents against health providers

One of the most famous incidents against health providers in recent memory was the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City late last year.

The suspected shooter, Luigi Mangione, has been in the headlines recently as the Trump administration said it would be seeking the death penalty against Mangione.

On April 1, Attorney General of the United States Pam Bondi released a public statement explaining that she ordered federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty against Mangione in order to “carry out President Trump’s agenda to stop violent crime and Make America Safe Again.”
