39-year-old skier killed after going off trail near summit of NH mountain
A skier was killed Sunday, April 20 when he went off a New Hampshire trail, according to police and the ski resort where it happened.
Someone called the Jackson Police Department for help that day around 5:51 p.m. to the Black Mountain Ski Area in Jackson, about 100 miles north of Concord.
The caller said the man, later identified as 39-year-old Eric M. Page, had gone off the trail and was seriously hurt, police said in a news release.
Erik Mogensen, general manager of Black Mountain, said in a statement that the accident happened near the summit of Black Mountain.
Black Mountain staff found the man near the Upper Maple Slalom trail. He was unresponsive and was on the edge of the snow line, to the left of the trail, police said in a news release.
Staff tried to save the man and took him to the base area, where first responders also tried to save the man. He was eventually pronounced dead.
According to authorities, no one witnessed what happened to Page, but a skier who was passing by saw the man and called for help.
Police said the New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s office was contacted, and they had the man sent to Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
“The entire Black Mountain community is deeply saddened by this tragic accident,” said Mogensen, general manager of Black Mountain. “I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the individual’s friends and family, the Black Mountain community, and all who have been affected by this loss.”
