Man electrocuted during tree-trimming service in Malibu, authorities say

A Los Angeles County man was electrocuted and killed over the weekend during a tree-trimming service, according to authorities.

The incident happened on May 17 just before 1 p.m. in Malibu, a lieutenant from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to Paste BN via email on May 19.

The department declined to identify the man, but authorities said someone was trimming trees when a tree branch knocked down the live powerline. The victim then grabbed the powerline and was electrocuted.

The sheriff’s department said the man’s death is presumed accidental until an autopsy is completed. Online records for the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner show that an autopsy has been scheduled.

Authorities declined to give more information when asked about the man’s identity.

According to KABC-TV and the Santa Monica Mirror, video from a local app for residents showed a small fire burning where the man was electrocuted.
