Nearly 3,000 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles stolen in heist

Authorities in Colorado are investigating a heist where an estimated $1.4 million worth of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles was stolen from a cargo truck.

According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a rest stop in Bennett, approximately 37 miles from Denver, on June 8.

The semi-truck driver informed the deputies that he had just discovered someone had broken into the vehicle during the pre-trip inspection. Photos posted on the sheriff's office Facebook page show items missing from the cargo truck.

It's unclear whether the crime happened in Bennett or another location.

Nearly 3,000 game consoles were taken from the truck

According to the sheriff's office, 2,810 new Nintendo Switch 2 game consoles were taken from the truck. The game system, considered the "fastest-selling" console for Nintendo, launched on June 5.

The Nintendo Switch 2 with the Mario Kart World bundle is listed as $499.99 on GameStop's website.

The driver told law enforcement, "he did not know what was in the trailer, only that it was games or toys," per authorities. He departed from Nintendo of America in Redmond, Washington, and was headed to a Gampstop in Grapevine, Texas.

The suspects could face charges for criminal mischief and felony theft valued at $1 million or more, according to authorities. As of June 17, no arrests have been made.
