Sunday talk shows to focus on elections
WASHINGTON — Prepare for a lot of predicting and prevaricating on the Sunday talk shows this week as guests ranging from Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., to Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Fla., dissect the political landscape ahead of Tuesday's midterm elections.
Much of the focus will be on the Senate, where Republicans need to pick up six seats to seize control. Paul, who is booked to appear on three shows, is slated to talk about what a Republican-controlled Senate would do. And of course, his own political ambitions in 2016.
On CNN's State of the Union, James Baker, former White House chief of staff under Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, will explore the prospects for President Obama's last two years in office if Republicans take over the Senate.
Here's the lineup:
• CBS' Face the Nation: Paul will discuss what could be accomplished by a GOP-controlled Senate. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power, who just returned from West Africa, will provide the latest on the U.S. response to Ebola.
• Fox News Sunday : Former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney will talk about Republicans' closing arguments in the lead-up to the elections, while Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., will provide insights from the Democratic side.
• NBC's Meet the Press: Paul is booked to speak with host Chuck Todd, who just concluded a "Meet the Voters" bus tour this week through North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Kansas, Arkansas and Wisconsin.
• CNN's State of the Union: Along with Paul and former White House chief of staff Baker, former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell, a Democrat, and former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, a Republican, will size up the elections.
• ABC's This Week: Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus and the DNC's Wasserman Schultz will talk midterms, while FiveThirtyEight editor in chief Nate Silver and Fusion's Alicia Menendez providing analysis.
