House speaker Paul Ryan to top Sunday talk shows
WASHINGTON – Newly-elected House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., will appear on five Sunday talk shows.
Ryan was elected speaker Thursday, replacing Rep. John Boehner of Ohio who decided to leave in part because a group of about 40 outspoken conservatives threatened to force a no-confidence vote on his speakership.
At 45, Ryan is the youngest speaker to lead the House in 140 years. Ryan said Thursday it’s time to fix a "broken" House and begin solving the nation's problems instead of adding to them, and he’s expected to talk more Sunday about how he will approach the new job.
The 2016 presidential election will also be a topic on the shows. The Republican candidates schedule to appear include Ben Carson, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina, John Kasich, and George Pataki.
Here are some of the guests in the lineup:
CBS' Face the Nation: House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis.; Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination; House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, R-Md.
