French president to visit White House next week for huddle on Islamic State

WASHINGTON — French President Francois Hollande will visit the White House next week to talk with President Obama about ways to battle back against the Islamic State, the White House announced Tuesday.

The leaders "will consult and coordinate our efforts to assist France’s investigation into these attacks, discuss further cooperation as part of the 65-member counter-ISIL coalition, and reiterate our shared determination to confront the scourge of terrorism," the White House said in a statement.

The Oval Office meeting is set for Tuesday, Nov. 24.

Hollande said Monday he wants to organize a global coalition to fight the Islamic State, and that he also plans to visit Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week.

"We must combine our forces to achieve a result that is already too late in coming," Hollande said.
