President Trump speaks at the Ohio GOP state dinner
President Trump will headline the Republican Party’s dinner in Columbus, Ohio on Friday. Earlier this week, Governor John Kasich confirmed that he will not attend the annual dinner. Kasich told reporters he was skipping the event in order to take one of his daughters to college.
The dinner comes after a difficult week for the White House. Trump's former attorney, Michael Cohen, implicated Trump this week in a felony: a scheme to pay hush money to women who claimed they had affairs with Trump, and to prevent them from going public during the 2016 presidential election.
On Tuesday, a jury convicted Paul Manafort – Donald Trump's former campaign chairman – on eight counts of bank and tax fraud. They could not reach agreement on 10 other counts of criminal conduct, prompting the judge to declare a mistrial on those.
Some congressional Democrats have intensified impeachment calls after the Cohen plea. During his Fox interview, Trump denied wrongdoing and said the claims against him don't amount to "high crimes" necessary for impeachment.
"I don't know how you can impeach somebody who's done a great job," Trump said.
