Thanks to Pete Buttigieg, O'Hare Airport is now calling itself a 'place of romance'

O’Hare Airport knows how to ingratiate itself with Joe Biden’s choice for transportation secretary, former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

At his formal introduction Wednesday, Buttigieg recounted how he’d proposed to his husband, Chasten, at the airport.

“Don't let anybody tell you that O'Hare isn't romantic,” Buttigieg added.

The Chicago airport is leaning into that declaration.

Its official twitter bio now describes O'Hare as a “Place of romance.”

“Thank you for appreciating all the connections we make possible @PeteButtigieg,” the airport tweeted. “Looking forward to working with you as we continue to make our airport lovable for decades to come.”

United Airlines, which has a hub at O'Hare, also weighed in.

“It was B5,” the airline tweeted. "Proof that love actually is all around.”

Buttigieg chose that gate to pop the question not because of his love of travel and teenage interest in becoming a pilot.

As he explained in his memoir, B5 was where Chasten Buttigieg had been killing time when he'd first noticed Pete’s profile on a dating app and they began chatting.

Proposing in the space behind the gate agent’s desk and against the window, Buttigieg wrote, he told Chasten he couldn’t promise that life with him would be easy or simple. But it would always be an adventure.
