Will Trump have his mug shot taken? Law enforcement officials say no

Former President Donald Trump will not have his mug shot taken as part of the processing for his initial court appearance on federal criminal charges related to classified documents, according to a senior law enforcement official.

Mug shots are traditionally taken to identify defendants in case they flee, but because Trump is well known, authorities will upload a picture of him from the public domain, the official said. The picture won’t be released.

But Trump will have his fingerprints taken digitally and no ink will be used, the official said, adding the process is typical for the U.S. Marshals Service.

No mug shots for Trump in both indictments

Trump did not have a mugshot taken when he was first indicted and surrendered to New York authorities and pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection with hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

Similar to what is expected in Miami, Trump was required to provide fingerprints but was not subjected to a mugshot or handcuffs.

As the first former president in history to face criminal charges, there was anticipation that a mug shot would become viral. An April 4 Facebook post of a fabricated mugshot of the former president was widely shared on the social media platform, but was not real.
