OnPolitics: Get caught up on Donald Trump's 2020 election arraignment?
Hi OnPolitics readers. Former President Donald Trump traveled to Washington today to plead not guilty to allegations he tried to steal the 2020 election.
Paste BN has a team of reporters at the Elijah Barrett Prettyman Courthouse in the nation’s capital ready to update you on Trump’s day in court and his reaction to his third indictment this year.
⏲️ What’s happened so far? A grand jury indicted Trump earlier this week on charges of conspiring with aides to overturn his 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden, efforts that led to the insurrection of Jan. 6, 2021.
❓ And what’s going on today? Trump will appear before federal Magistrate Judge Moxila A. Upadhyaya to enter his plea. He’s expected to plead not guilty to the four charges he faces, accusations he immediately criticized as election interference as he seeks his second term in the White House.
Once the trial begins, U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan will oversee Trump’s case. She has presided over other cases related the Capitol attack, and she’s the only judge in D.C. who has given longer sentences to these defendants than what was requested by federal officials.
