US Sen. Chuck Grassley discharged from hospital after treatment for infection, office says


U.S. Sen. Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa has been discharged from the hospital after being treated for an infection, his Washington announced Thursday.

Grassley, 90, is expected to be back to work next week, the staff said in a one-sentence statement.

Grassley staff announced Tuesday that he had been hospitalized and was "receiving antibiotic infusions at an area hospital to treat an infection." They added that he was "in good spirits and will return to work as soon as possible following doctors' orders."

Grassley’s spokesperson, Taylor Foy, said the senator, who has held office since 1958, went to the hospital Sunday for tests to make a diagnosis and begin the infusions.

Iowa's senior senator is the most senior member of the chamber, and has held the seat since 1981.
