Do I need to register to vote?
Yes, you need to register to vote in Louisiana. Check your registration status here on the Secretary of State’s website.
How do I do that?
You can register to vote online, by mailing in a paper registration form or in person at the Registrar of Voters Office and other state offices including the Office of Motor Vehicles, Department of Children and Family Services and Medicaid offices.
What's the deadline?
The deadline to register by mail and in-person is Oct. 7, but you can still register online until Oct. 15.

Can I vote by mail?
Certain circumstances including being a senior citizen, living overseas, serving in the military, being out of town for college or absent during early voting and Election Day, may mean you’re eligible to request an absentee ballot. Check this more detailed list of requirements to see if you qualify. The deadline to apply is four days before Election Day. Military, overseas and hospitalized voters can request an absentee ballot the day before Election Day.
What's the latest date I can turn in my ballot?
General and disabled voters’ ballots must be received by 4:30 p.m. on the day before Election Day. Military, overseas or hospitalized voters' ballots can be received by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

What if I need help getting to the polling site?
If you have a physical disability that makes it difficult for you to make it to the polls, you can request an absentee ballot and have the ballot delivered by email. You can return your ballot by mail or fax or have it delivered by an immediate family member.
