Ohio sets new record for early in-person voting, tops pandemic numbers from 2020

Ohio set a new record for early in-person voting, Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced Tuesday afternoon, topping the previous record set during the pandemic in 2020.
"Our data team has been busy running the early voting numbers still coming in from the counties, and I’m thrilled to confirm today that Ohio set a new statewide record for in-person early voting," LaRose announced on X.
A total of 1,538,084 people cast early in-person votes, according to a statewide summary from the Ohio Secretary of State's office. Another 1,026,994 people mailed in absentee ballots, which didn't break its previous record, but still helped the total early voter number reach 2,565,078.
"The record for mail-in voting will always be tough to beat due to the pandemic in 2020, but Ohio voters are showing increasing confidence in casting a ballot early," LaRose said in his tweet.
Breaking down the numbers, 711,509 Republicans voted early, compared to 450,363 Democrats. Another 1,403,199 voters not affiliated with any party also cast ballots.
