Republican Jim Banks wins Indiana's open U.S. Senate seat
Republican Jim Banks was considered the front-runner in the race and was endorsed by former President Donald Trump.

Indiana's next U.S. Senator is Republican Jim Banks, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
Banks had 62% of the vote over Democrat Valerie McCray's 36% of the vote, when the Associated Press called the race at 7 p.m. with about 13% of the vote in across Indiana. Libertarian Andrew Horning had about 2% of the vote. The candidates ran for the open seat being vacated by Republican Mike Braun in his run for governor.
Banks will serve a six-year term in the Senate and join Republican U.S. Sen. Todd Young representing the Hoosier State.
Banks was first elected to Congress in 2016 and has been considered a rising star in GOP circles, with an influence that continues to grow. He is running with Trump's endorsement and has vowed to be Trump’s “conservative fighter” in the Senate, supporting the former president’s economic and immigration policies.
