President-elect Donald Trump will soon begin his second term after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.

According to Paste BN, Trump has already named most of his cabinet nominees and several other senior White House positions since his victory in November. Among his appointments is Vivek Ramaswamy, a former presidential candidate and Cincinnati native, who Trump tapped to help lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, with Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk.

In that time, he has also replaced Matt Gaetz with a new pick for attorney general after Gaetz dropped out following ongoing controversy about previous investigations into sexual misconduct.

Trump has also announced some day-one plans, including hitting Mexico, Canada and China with import tariffs.

But when will Trump and soon-to-be Vice President J.D. Vance be sworn into office? Let's take a look.

When is Inauguration Day?

The inauguration ceremony will take place Monday, Jan. 20, 2025.

Where is the inauguration?

The inauguration ceremony takes place at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C.

What is the presidential oath of office?

During Inauguration Day, the vice-president-elect is sworn in first and repeats the same oath of office recited by senators, representatives and other federal employees. The following oath has been in use since 1884:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

Then the president-elect recites another oath around noon that is in line with Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution.

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

What happens on Inauguration Day?

The inauguration is planned by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. The events include the swearing-in, the inaugural address and a review of the troops.

Previous performers and speakers have included Beyoncé, Garth Brooks, Lady Gaga and Amanda Gorman. There are other events leading up to and after the inauguration, including the Inaugural Parade and the Inaugural Balls, Paste BN reports.
