- Under President Donald Trump's guidance, the Office of Personnel Management offered buyout plans to more than two million federal employees last week.
Erica Roach, the chief financial officer of the Office of Personnel Management, has reportedly resigned, after being pushed from her role by Tesla and Space X CEO Elon Musk, according to several reports.
An ABC News reporter posted about the news to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday evening, citing "sources familiar with the move," and Business Insider reported that Roach confirmed the news but declined to comment further.
Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE for short, has been swiftly taking over government agencies since President Donald Trump's inauguration last month, including the Office of Personnel Management.
Last week, Musk's DOGE representatives reportedly locked Office of Personnel Management senior officials out of some of the agency's computer systems, including personal data of federal employees like their Social Security numbers, birthdays and home addresses.
Musk's efforts align with Trump's push to reduce the federal government workforce. Last Tuesday, the Office of Personnel Management, under Trump's guidance, offered more than two million federal employees buyout plans, which included eight months of pay and benefits through September, if they resign by Thursday, Feb. 6.
In response to both Musk and Trump's actions, protestors have been gathering outside the Office of Personnel Management all week, standing against what they call a "coup" by Musk and his aides.
Roach became the CFO of the Office of Personnel Management in November 2023, according to her LinkedIn profile. She's been with the office since 2017, when she started as the director of system planning and development.
The Office of Personnel Management did not immediately respond to Paste BN's request for comment when contacted on Thursday.
