WASHINGTON − President Donald Trump said in a social media post he saw video showing “THUGS” throwing rocks and bricks at Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and said he ordered authorities to “arrest these SLIMEBALLS, using whatever means is necessary” in future confrontations.
Fox News played video of the violent clash repeatedly during the day July 11. Trump said he watched the recording while flying back from Texas, where he visited flood-damaged areas.
The violent clash over immigration enforcement erupted July 10 during a raid at a marijuana farm in Camarillo, California. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott said in a social media post 10 minors were found and the case was under investigation for child-labor violations.
The Department of Homeland Security said 200 undocumented immigrants were arrested in raids at farms in Camarillo and Carpinteria.
“During the operation, a violent agitator fired a gun at our brave officers,” said Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of Homeland Security. “We will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone who assaults or doxes federal law enforcement.”
A union said a farmworker died in the clash.
"We tragically can confirm that a farmworker has died of injuries they sustained as a result of yesterday’s immigration enforcement action," the United Farm Workers union said in a social media post.
Trump said he directed Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and border czar Tom Homan to instruct all federal law enforcement officers “on the receiving end of thrown rocks, bricks, or any other form of assault, to stop their car and arrest these SLIMEBALLS, using whatever means is necessary to do so.”
