Nancy Mace launches campaign for South Carolina governor

WASHINGTON - Republican Rep. Nancy Mace launched her campaign for the South Carolina gubernatorial race on Aug. 4, joining a crowded field of GOP primary candidates running to succeed Gov. Henry McMaster.
Mace announced her candidacy in a speech at The Citadel, a military college in Charleston where she became the first woman to graduate from the Corps of Cadets nearly 26 years ago.
"South Carolina is tired of politicians who smile for the cameras, lie to your face and then vanish when it's time to leave. I'm not one of them," she said in her speech.
She added, "South Carolina needs a governor who will drag the truth into sunlight and flip the table if that's what it takes. South Carolina doesn't need another politician who folds when things get tough."
Mace, 47, has represented South Carolina’s first congressional district, which covers parts of Charleston, since 2021. She became the first Republican woman elected to Congress from the state. Mace has previously criticized Trump over the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack, but has since become one of his staunchest allies.
Republicans South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman, state Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and state Sen. Josh Kimbrell have also announced their candidacies for South Carolina governor.
