WALDORF, Md. — A Maryland man who was selected as a Donald Trump delegate to the Republican National Convention faces weapons and child pornography charges.

U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein in Baltimore announced the indictment of Caleb Bailey, 30, of Waldorf on Thursday.

A federal grand jury indicted Bailey on multiple charges, including using a minor to produce child pornography, illegal possession of a machine gun, and illegal transport of explosives.

According to prosecutors, Bailey attempted to send a package in the mail that contained more than 300 explosive rounds.

Prosecutors say Bailey called the U.S. Postal Service customer service line twice to inquire about the package, providing a tracking number associated with it. In the first call he used a fake name, but identified himself as Bailey during the second call, according to prosecutors.

Authorities agreed to meet with Bailey on May 5 so he could provide information about the missing package, court documents say.

However, prosecutors say Bailey did not show up to the meeting. After that, authorities executed a search warrant and arrested Bailey inside his home.

Bailey also had an illegal machine gun when he was arrested, authorities say.

Bailey faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for unlawful transport of explosives; a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison for production and attempted production of child pornography; and a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for possessing child pornography.

Bailey is being held until a hearing May 24 in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt, Md.

In July, Maryland will send 38 delegates to the convention in Cleveland. Bailey won the delegate spot for Maryland's 5th District during the primary in April. State Republican Party Executive Director Joe Cluster said he expects Bailey to resign and be replaced by an alternate.

A spokesperson for Trump's campaign said, "We strongly condemn these allegations and leave it in the capable hands of law enforcement. He will be replaced immediately."
