Handicapping the 2016 election: What are the odds?
It's Kentucky Derby week and an online bookmaker marking the occasion with odds for next year's political horse race says the smart money is on Hillary Clinton.
SportsBookReview.com handicapper Peter Loshak says a $100 bet on Clinton to win the 2016 presidential election would generate a profit of $125 (a gross return of $225), based on his survey of the odds that online sports books are placing on each of the major candidates for president.
After Democrat Clinton, the next highest-rated contenders are Republicans Jeb Bush (5-1), Marco Rubio (9-1) and Scott Walker (12-1).
The Race for the Roses at Churchill Downs in Kentucky takes place Saturday. The favorite is American Pharoah.
Betting on election results isn't as popular as betting on horses, but Paddy Power, Ireland's largest bookmaker, is expecting $6 million in bets to be placed on the 2016 presidential election.
