Rubio earned at least $100,000 from latest book
WASHINGTON — Marco Rubio earned $100,000 to $1 million as of Friday from his latest book, American Dreams: Restoring Economic Opportunity for Everyone, according to a financial disclosure form that the Florida senator and GOP presidential candidate's campaign released Friday.
Candidates are required to report income only in broad ranges.
Rubio earned $345,000 in 2013 in royalties from his first book, the 2012 best-selling autobiography, An American Son.
Rubio also received an $800,000 advance in 2012 to write the book. He has mentioned more than once that the advance helped him, the son of Cuban immigrants, erase more than $100,000 in student loan debt he carried as recently as 2011.
Both books are published by Penguin Group USA.
Rubio's contract for American Dreams provides royalty payments of 12.5% to 15% from hardcover sales, 7.5% to 10% from sale of paperbacks and 25% from audio book sales, according to Friday's disclosure. The book is part autobiographical and part policy manifesto on improving the nation's economy.
Rubio earned $174,000 last year as a senator. He also earned $22,115 teaching at Florida International University, according to a separate financial report.
