Nebraska U.S. Sen. Pete Ricketts won the Republican nomination in the state's special primary election on Tuesday night, beating other GOP candidates, John Glen Weaver and Mac Stevens. He will face Democratic candidate and civil rights activist Preston Love Jr. in November's general election.

Ricketts was initially appointed to his Senate seat in 2022 by Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen after former Sen. Ben Sasse resigned to serve as the president of the University of Florida. Pillen appointed him to serve until this year's special election when he is running to serve out the last two years of the term.

The Cornhusker State also gave a win to Republican U.S. Senator Deb Fischer, who is finishing her second term in Congress and will be facing independent candidate Dan Osborn on Election Day

Like the other Nebraska incumbents running for federal office, the Nebraska GOP did not endorse Ricketts, but rather Weaver, who is a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump.
