Kamala Harris 'increasing her role' in re-election campaign, Biden campaign co-chair says

WASHINGTON − Vice President Kamala Harris is “increasing her role” in President Joe Biden's reelection effort, campaign co-chair and former Lousiana Rep. Cedric Richmond said on MSNBC.
Speaking on “The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart, Richmond said, “She is increasing her role and she’s been a valued partner since day one. I won’t get into whether she’s been covered fairly by the press, but she is a valuable partner. She’s incredibly intelligent.”
“And I will just say she has not only publicly stated her support for President Biden, but she’s privately said that too.”
Richmond's remarks come as several Democratic lawmakers have called for President Joe Biden to drop out of the race after his dismal debate performance earlier this month that put concerns about his age, 81, further in the spotlight.
Richmond said that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, both touted as potential Biden replacements, have reiterated their support for the president.
“Leaders are rallying around this president and vice president because they understand what's at stake and they understand what they have accomplished,” he said.
In a primetime ABC interview Friday, Biden reiterated that he won’t drop out of the race and argued that he’s in “good shape.”
