Trump's VP shortlist react to JD Vance named as running mate

For months, the media and the public debated who former President Donald Trump would choose as his running mate. The debate came to a close on Monday when Trump announced Ohio Senator J.D. Vance would be his vice president.
The announcement, made on Truth Social, came on the first day of the Republican National Convention taking place from Monday to Thursday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Doug Burgum
The North Dakota governor seemed to be a top pick for Trump before the announcement was made, showing his support at the hush money trial and offering deep pockets.
"Today he [Donald Trump] selected @JdVance1 as his running mate, whose small town roots and service to country make him a powerful voice for the America First Agenda," Burgum wrote in an X post. "I look forward to campaigning for the Trump-Vance ticket to Make America Great Again!"
Marco Rubio
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla, reportedly lost out on the vice president spot because of concerns over his residency in Florida, according to a report from Reuters. He wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that he supports Trump's pick: "JD Vance is a fantastic choice. Americans will soon see this is an incredibly intelligent and talented man who is completely committed to making America great again."

Kristi Noem
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem hit a roadblock during Trump's vice president search over a story of her shooting her dog that she wrote about in her book "No Going Back: The Truth on What's Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward."
"Republicans, we've got our ticket! President Trump and @JdVance1 will unite this country, and I look forward to doing whatever I can to help them win," Noem wrote on X.
Elise Stefanik
Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y. called Trump's pick "a strong VP choice" in her post to X on Monday.
"J.D. Vance is a strong America First leader and proven conservative," Stefanik wrote on X. "I have enjoyed getting to know J.D. on the campaign trail as surrogates for President Trump and I look forward to campaigning and working with him closely int he months and years ahead. I am humbled and honored to have been considered by President Trump throughout this process."
She also pledged to get the Trump-Vance ticket elected this November in her post.
Katie Britt
U.S. Senator Katie Britt, R-AL was considered a long shot for the vice president role, but she made pop culture headlines for her State of the Union response video which later appeared as a Saturday Night Live skit.
"My good friend @JdVance1 is a tremendous voice for parents, families, and hardworking Americans," Britt posted on X. "As the Republican Party's nominee for Vice President, he will be a tireless advocate for the America First agenda."
