U.S. Rep. John James spoke at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Monday evening to talk about military experience and upbringing with working-class parents in Michigan.
The Republican National Convention is in Milwaukee through Thursday where former President Donald Trump on Thursday will formally accept the party’s nomination for the 2024 Election.

What to know about John James
- Who he is: James, one of the country's most prominent black Republicans, has represented Michigan's 10th Congressional district since 2023. Prior to serving in Congress, James worked at James Group International, his father's company, becoming CEO of subsidiary Renaissance Global Logistics. James also served as active-duty military for eight years after graduating from West Point.
- What role he plays: James was the Republican nominee to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate in 2018 and 2022. James is a member of the Committee on Transportation, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Committee on Education and the Workforce, and the Committee on Energy and Commerce.
- Key quote: "My family's story is the american dream story, but my biggest concern right now, my biggest fear is will children today be able to look back and share that same story."
When and where is the Republican National Convention?
The Republicans' convention will take place over four days, from July 15-18 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Fiserv Forum, home of the Milwaukee Bucks, will be the main venue for the RNC.
There also will be events at the nearby University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panther Arena and the Baird Center.
