Sen. Mark Kelly, Gov. Josh Shapiro betting favorites as Democratic VP candidate
As the betting market for the presidential race shakes out after President Joe Biden's decision to drop out Sunday and Vice President Kamala Harris ascent to become the all-but-presumptive nominee, the key question of who will serve as Harris' vice presidential running mate has opened a new line for bettors.
The Harris campaign requested vetting material on at least seven potential vice-presidential candidates Paste BN reported Tuesday, including betting favorites Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D).
"Arizona Senator Mark Kelly has been the early choice of punters at 11/8, followed most closely by Governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, at 9/4," William Kedjanyi, Political Betting Analyst at U.K. bookmaker Star Sports, said in a statement to Paste BN.
The betting markets, which U.S. bookmakers cannot legally take action on, agreed with Astley's assessment as the betting houses Paste BN has regularly surveyed had Kelly and Shapiro in the lead. The books have a consensus of North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (D) and Kentucky Governor Andrew Beshear (D) as holding the third and fourth places respectively.
Here are the odds for Democratic vice-presidential nominee as of July 23.
