With the Democratic ticket set, supporters are rushing to get merch and yard signs, but they won't go to HarrisWalz.com for them, at least for now.

Vice President Kamala Harris announced Tuesday she selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate in this rollercoaster of an election cycle. Just months ago, Harris as the presidential candidate seemed far fetched and Walz wasn't well known in mainstream circles. But one New York lawyer put them together, at least for the internet, years ago.

Jeremy Green Eche bought the HarrisWalz.com domain in 2020 for $8.99, along with several other potential presidential pairings, like HarrisPritzker.com, he told Paste BN Wednesday.

Eche founded Communer, a marketplace for registered trademarks. In 2011, he bought ClintonKaine.com. He tried to sell it to Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2016, but he said they only offered up to $2,000 for it. Instead, the Trump campaign bought it for $15,000 and the website hosted negative headlines about the Democratic ticket.

Harris supporter pays $15,000 for HarrisWalz.com domain

Eche branded the HarrisWalz.com landing page with the lime-green Charli XCX "BRAT" album cover with "walz" in big letters. He said his wife suggested the website's design.

But Eche said he sold the domain to a "random man" Tuesday afternoon.

"He told me he's a Harris supporter who doesn't want the Trump campaign to buy the domain like, they did with ClintonKaine.com," Eche said.

The buyer intends to hold onto it unless the Harris campaign wants to buy the domain at the cost he paid for it, according to Eche.

As of Wednesday, the campaign is listing KamalaHarris.com as its website.
