On the heels of what appears to be a second attempt to assassinate him in a few months, former President Donald Trump is forging ahead with his campaign schedule this week as the Nov. 5 election nears.

After the previous attempt on Trump’s life during a July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, his campaign briefly paused outdoor rallies, but went ahead with scheduled appearances at the Republican National Convention in the days afterward. There was no indication the latest apparent attempt on Trump’s life would dramatically alter his campaign schedule this time, either.

On Sunday, Sept. 15, authorities apprehended suspect Ryan Routh near Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club in what appears to be a botched second attempt on Trump’s life. Secret Service agents spotted a gun barrel in bushes along the course Sunday afternoon and opened fire at Routh, stopping him less than an hour later after he attempted to flee by car.

Routh, who appeared in federal court in Florida on Monday, never fired a shot, authorities said. He was being held on charges of possession of a firearm while a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Trump events in Michigan, New York, DC scheduled this week

With just seven weeks before the Nov. 5 election, Trump will visit several states this week for campaign events and rallies. Trump spent Monday in Florida to meet with the U.S. Secret Service acting director and gave a media interview recounting the Sunday attempt.

During a virtual event on the X Spaces platform late Monday, Trump blamed Democrats’ rhetoric for the attempt, despite the party’s condemnations of political violence.

  • On Tuesday, Trump plans to travel to Flint, Michigan for a town-hall-style event, according to his website.
  • On Wednesday, Trump is scheduled to make his way eastward for a rally in Uniondale, New York.
  • On Thursday, is expected to attend an event with a pro-Israel group on Thursday in Washington, D.C., the New York Times reports.
  • And on Saturday, Trump is scheduled to head to a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina.

A polling average of state and national polls compiled by FiveThirtyEight.com showed rival Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the lead by less than three percentage points nationwide as of Tuesday morning.
