There probably won't be another debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris — unless there will — but the debate between their running mates, Ohio Sen. JD Vance and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, is coming up fast.

Here's what to know.

When is the vice-presidential debate between JD Vance and Tim Walz?

The debate between the Republican senator and the Democratic governor will be on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 9 p.m. EDT.

How can I watch the vice presidential debate?

The 90-minute debate will be broadcast on CBS and livestreamed on all platforms where CBS News 24/7 and Paramount+ are available. The debate will also be made available for other networks and streaming services to simulcast, CBS announced.

Who are the moderators for the vice-presidential debate?

The moderators will be:

  • Norah O'Donnell: Anchor and managing editor of "CBS Evening News"
  • Margaret Brennan: CBS News foreign affairs correspondent and "Face the Nation" moderator

Where will the vice presidential debate be held?

The debate is scheduled to be at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City.

How many vice presidential debates will there be?

Both men agreed to the Oct. 1 debate out of the four dates proposed by CBS.

"See you on October 1, JD," Walz posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Vance accepted the next day.

Vance also proposed a Sept. 18 debate on CNN, but Harris' campaign said Walz would only be participating in the Oct. 1 event.

Will there be another presidential debate between Trump and Harris?

As of Wednesday, Sept. 25, it seems unlikely but in this race, things change quickly.

More than 67 million viewers tuned in to watch former President Donald Trump debate Vice President Kamala Harris, on Sept. 10, not counting people streaming it or watching on PBS.

Moments after the debate ended, an email from the Harris-Walz campaign slammed Trump again and ended with, "Vice President Harris is ready for a second debate. Is Donald Trump?"

Meanwhile, Trump was telling reporters that since he won, he didn't need to go again but "we'll see." By the next morning, Trump told Fox News he wasn't sure he wanted or needed to debate again.

“I’d be less inclined to because we had a great night. We won the debate. We had a terrible, a terrible network,” Trump said. Since then he has said in interviews and at rallies that there was no need for a "rematch," although he has also mused that he might if he was in the right mood.

Most polls showed the former President lost the debate against Harris and her polling numbers went up the week after.

Last week, Trump declined a CNN invitation for a second debate on Oct. 23, telling supporters at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina that "It's just too late — voting has already started." He also said he'd done two already — the first was against President Joe Biden, which went so poorly for him that he dropped out of the race in favor of Harris — and that he didn't think CNN would be fair.

Harris accepted the invitation Saturday, saying in a post on X she hoped Trump would reconsider meeting her on the debate stage.
