Massachusetts Democrat Elizabeth Warren wins 3rd term in US Senate

Massachusetts Democrat Elizabeth Warren has secured her third term in the U.S. Senate.
Warren was up against Republican John Deaton, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and practicing attorney who fashioned himself as a moderate during the campaign. But in blue Massachusetts, Warren's progressive record appealed to voters.
Warren, 75, was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012 and was reelected in 2018. She ran a brief campaign for president in 2020 before throwing her support to President Joe Biden. She's been a fierce critic of former President Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance.
Warren is a former attorney, consumer advocate and author who has penned almost a dozen books, mostly about money management and the crisis of the middle class.
Democrats have a functional majority of 51 seats in the Senate, with 47 Democrats and four Independent senators that lean Democrat. Democrats are hoping to hold that majority this election cycle.
