Virginia election official removed after 11 voters got wrong ballots, can't cast new ones
Richmond Precinct Chief Barbara Burgo was removed from her position Tuesday after 11 voters were given incomplete ballots. She says it was a 'human error' by a new election officer.

An election official in Virginia has been removed from her position after 11 voters got incomplete ballots, according to multiple local news outlets.
The Richmond Electoral Board removed Precinct Chief Barbara Burgo on Tuesday, according to Keith Balmer, Richmond’s general registrar. The voters were given ballots that had federal elections listed but not mayor, city council or school board, he said.
Balmer said the issue was caused when voters were handed ballots intended to be given to military or overseas voters.
"This all could have been avoided had Ms. Burgo adhered to the protocols and guidance that she received from our training classes," Balmer said.
Meanwhile Burgo told VPM News, an NPR station. on Tuesday morning that she had a new officer who "made a mistake" when she gave the wrong ballots to 11 people. "She's a human being," Burgo told VPM.
In a 10 a.m. briefing about the problem, Virginia Department of Elections Commissioner Susan Beals said the issue had been resolved and that the voters who were given the incorrect ballots wouldn't be allowed to cast another one, VPM reported.
