STUART, Florida — A new charge of felony attempted murder was added to Ryan Routh, who was previously charged with attempted assassination of President-elect Donald Trump in September in Palm Beach County.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody on Wednesday made the announcement from the Martin County Sheriff's Office in Stuart. She said the new charge stemmed from the near-death of a 6-year-old girl.

Moody said when Routh fled north into Martin County following his alleged assassination attempt, a crash that happened during his apprehension severely injured the girl.

Gov. Ron DeSantis had planned to attend the news conference, but could not make the trip to Martin County because of weather.
