Lawmakers show their Olympic stripes in tweets

When in politics, it is always wise to stand next to athletic heroes. Thus this weekend provided a drove of tweets from lawmakers cheering on U.S. Olympians who also happen to be constituents/voters.

On Sunday, Sen. Amy Klobuchar gave a shoutout to the U.S. men's Olympic hockey team and the hometown of T.J. Oshie,  the hero of the team's shootout victory over Russia Saturday.

Warroad is also home to  Gigi Marvin, a defenseman on the women's Olympic hockey team.  The town is, appropriately, going nuts for its local Olympians.

(Of course, note that Oshie may be from Minnesota, but Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Wash., would like to note he is also from Washington.)

Klobuchar and Reichert were obviously not the only ones excited about hockey:

And Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., was rooting for a home-state hockey player on the women's team.

In the New Hampshire delegation, both sides are cheering on skier Bode Miller.

Meanwhile, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa — zagging where others zig, as usual — was touting champions closer to home: the University of Northern Iowa wrestling team.
