Duck Dynasty turns tail on kissing congressman
Really, it doesn't get any better than this.
The Duck Dynasty clan -- the family behind the popular A&E reality show -- is backing one of its own for the congressional seat that may or may not be vacated by Rep. Vance McAllister, the married congressman who was caught on a security tape making out with a married staff member.
McAllister, a Louisiana Republican, first said he would not run again after the kissing video went viral, then said he was keeping his options open, and is now leading a recent poll even though he has not declared his intentions. According toThe News-Star in Monroe, La., McAllister "made things more interesting Monday, saying he’s leaning toward standing for re-election."
But now a new entry in the race: Pharmaceutical representative Zach Dasher, a member of the DuckDynasty family, says he is joining the race.
Our colleagues at the Shreveport Timeshave the story:
Dasher, 36, a Republican, said he has the blessing and support of the Duck Commander Robertson family. Patriarch Phil Robertson is Dasher’s uncle.
“I want to help restore America to what she once was — a nation that builds freedom and prosperity on the anchor of God,” Dasher said. . . .
“We’ve vetted (Zach) for 36 years,” said Al Robertson, the oldest son of Phil and Kay.
This is a big deal because it was the support of the famously conservative Christian duck clan that propelled McAllister to victory in the first place in a 2013 special election.
McAllister's opponent in that race, state Sen. Neil Riser, said this week he will not run for the seat again.
