Mitt Romney, Bob Dole to campaign for Roberts in Kansas
Sen. Pat Roberts is turning to a couple of Republican presidential nominees to rally voters in the final week before Election Day.
Bob Dole and Mitt Romney will headline an event Monday in Overland Park, Kan. for Roberts, who is deadlocked in the fight of his political career against independent Greg Orman.
Dole, perhaps Kansas' favorite son and the 1996 GOP presidential nominee, has appeared on the campaign trail before for Roberts, who seeks a fourth term. Romney, the party's 2012 standard-bearer, endorsed Roberts in September and called him a "tough, tested and trusted conservative."
Dole and Romney are just the latest in a parade of big-name Republicans to hit the trail in Kansas, a GOP stronghold that now has a central role in close contests for governor and the U.S. Senate. Jeb Bush, Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have all hit the trail in Kansas for Roberts.
