GOP unites Bill Cassidy in Louisiana Senate race
This post was updated:
Unity was the buzzword today in Louisiana, where Republicans rallied around Rep. Bill Cassidy and his bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu.
Sen. Rand Paul, a favorite of Tea Party conservatives and a potential 2016 presidential candidate, told the Baton Rouge crowd that it's time for Landrieu to come home after three terms. Cassidy and Landrieu face off in a Dec. 6 runoff.
Paul was joined by retired Air Force colonel Rob Maness, who came in third to Landrieu and Cassidy, along with a who's who of the GOP, including Gov. Bobby Jindal and Sen. David Vitter.
Republicans are hoping to add Louisiana to their 2014 victories. The GOP picked up seven Senate seats on Election Day to take control of the Senate. In addition, Republican Dan Sullivan is leading Democratic Sen. Mark Begich in Alaska, where vote counting continues.
Cassidy has stressed that nearly 58% of Louisianans did not vote for Landrieu on Nov. 4. He and Maness got together with their wives on Friday to put the campaign behind them. In a post on Facebook, Maness said he and Cassidy "had a positive discussion concerning our shared love for our country and for Louisiana."
Maness' truck apparently also has a new bumper sticker.
