Aaron Schock is gone, but will 'Downton Abbey' look remain?
This post has been updated:
Aaron Schock's resignation from Congress takes effect Tuesday, but curious minds want to know: Will his successor get rid of the Downton Abbey-inspired office look that contributed to the Illinois Republican's fall from grace?
Illinois state Sen. Darin LaHood, one of the Republicans trying to succeed Schock, deflected the query.
"That'll be a good problem to solve if I'm fortunate enough to get elected, but I'll worry about that if and when I'm elected," LaHood told the Pekin Daily Times.
Quick recap: A Washington Post story about Schock's bold-red office decor in the style of the hit PBS show about an English manor led reporters to dig deep about the high-flying congressman's spending from official and campaign accounts. Schock announced his resignation after a steady drip of stories and now the FBI is investigating.
With Schock's exit, Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner has set July 24 as the special election date with a primary date of June 8. The 18th Congressional District is a GOP stronghold.
