Romney: Wish I'd bet $10,000 on Duke

Mitt Romney is congratulating the Duke Blue Devils and coach Mike Krzyzewski with a reference to a near-forgotten incident during the 2012 Republican primary battle.

"Should have put $10,000 on my bracket. Congrats, Coach K and @DukeU," Romney tweeted after Duke claimed the men's college basketball title with a 68-63 win over Wisconsin on Monday night.

During a GOP debate in the run-up to 2012, Romney bet opponent Rick Perry $10,000 he would prevail in a dispute over his position on President Obama's health care law.

Perry -- who replied "I'm not in the betting business" -- and other critics said Romney's seemingly casual willingness to risk $10,000 showed he was out of touch with middle class Americans.

Romney may have made some money if he bet on the 2015 men's college basketball tournament. Before it began, the former Massachusetts governor (correctly) picked Duke to beat Wisconsin in the championship game.
