John Kasich takes step toward 2016 race with political committee
Need a sign of Ohio Gov. John Kasich's seriousness about running for president? The Republican now has a political committee to help underwrite his travel and other activities as he considers a 2016 bid.
New Day for America, a non-profit advocacy group, launched yesterday with former New Hampshire senator John Sununu on its board of directors. The committee is organized under section 527 of the IRS code.
In a Fox News interview Monday night, Kasich said the committee will allow him to "put the resources together to continue and travel" and to be "even more robust than I've been."

Kasich, a former House Budget Committee chairman, was easily elected to a second term in Ohio last year. He flirted with running for president in the 2000 cycle and has been traveling to South Carolina and New Hampshire to share his message of job creation.
"This is a step forward," Kasich told Sean Hannity of Fox News, adding that he will officially declare a 2016 campaign "when I decide I can win."
Three graphics on New Day for America's website aim to highlight Kasich's appeal: Two illustrate the governor's ability to appeal to a wide range of political and demographic groups in Ohio and the third drives home the point that his 2014 re-election victory was "decisive and historic."
