American voters oppose Iran deal 2-1
American voters oppose the Iran nuclear agreement by a two-to-one margin, with 57% in opposition and just 28% in support, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll released today.
A similar margin, 58%, said the pact will make the world less safe.
Republican voters are the leading opponents of the deal, 86%-3%, while Democrats support it 52%-32%.
Independents oppose it 55%-29%.
"There's not a lot of love for the proposed nuclear deal with Iran. Only a bare majority of Democrats support the pact," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.
Congress is expected to vote on the deal by a Sept. 17 deadline. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said Republicans are likely to put a resolution of disapproval on the floor in an effort to block the deal.
President Obama will veto any legislation aiming to block the deal. The administration has been lobbying Democrats to support the deal and block a potential veto override.
