Trump leads more polls as GOP debate nears

Another poll, another big Donald Trump lead as Republicans brace for their first debate.

Trump carries 21% in a Bloomberg Politics national poll released Tuesday, followed by Jeb Bush at 10% and Scott Walker at 8%.

The New York-based businessman also leads a new CBS News poll with 24%, followed by Bush (13%) and Walker (10%).

These are among the last polls to be released before Fox News announces which ten candidates qualify for Thursday night's debate, based on an aggregate of national surveys.

In addition to Trump, Bush, and Walker, the Bloomberg News top ten features Mike Huckabee (7%), Marco Rubio (6%), Rand Paul (5%), Ben Carson (5%), Chris Christie (4%), Ted Cruz (4%), and John Kasich (4%).

Candidates who do not make the prime time debate will be invited to a forum earlier in the day on Thursday.

The remainder of the Bloomberg Politics poll: Rick Perry (2%), Rick Santorum (2%), Carly Fiorina (1%), Bobby Jindal (1%), and Lindsey Graham (1%).

Jim Gilmore and George Pataki had less than 1%.

Bloomberg Politics reported that "Trump's surge may come at the expense of other Republicans, including Bush, Walker, and Rubio. Those who pick Trump as their first choice in the Bloomberg Politics poll most commonly pick Bush (16%), Walker (13%), and Christie (9%) as their second choice."

CBS News says of its poll:

"Trump appeals to many factions of Republican primary voters. He leads among conservatives, Tea Party supporters, evangelicals and both men and women. Among Republican primary voters who do not consider themselves Tea Partiers, the race is closer. Bush (21%) performs better among this group, edging out Trump (19%)."
