Conservative host: Marco Rubio could be GOP's best bet

Prominent conservative Erick Erickson stopped short of endorsing Marco Rubio's bid for the GOP nomination, but he's telling the party's establishment types that the Florida senator might be their best opportunity to put the brakes on the candidacies of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.

"I am willing to give the establishment some advice," the radio host said in a Wednesday post on his website. "If they are that desperate to stop Cruz and Trump they need to rally to Rubio. He’s the only one with a chance of stopping them and that is not even guaranteed."

"It is just reality, folks," he added.

As Politico notes, there's some unpleasant history between Trump and Erickson. Last year, Erickson dropped Trump from a gathering of conservative activists, following Trump's remarks that Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly had "blood come out of her wherever" as she questioned him in a GOP debate.

Cruz, a firebrand first-term Texas senator, leads most polls in Iowa, and Trump is in second place.
