Clinton releases emotional ad appealing to Latinos in Nevada
Hillary Clinton released an emotional new ad two days before the Nevada caucuses aimed at Latino voters worried about U.S. deportation policy.
The minute-long ad, titled "Brave," features footage of a recent campaign event in Las Vegas during which a 10-year-old girl tells Clinton she's worried about her parents being deported, before breaking down in tears.
"My parents, they have a letter of deportation. I'm scared they are going to be deported," the girl says. Clinton summons her to the front of the room and embraces her.
"Let me do the worrying. I'll do all the worrying," says Clinton. "I'll do everything I can to help, OK?" At that point, the girl hugs Clinton and the camera pans to another woman wiping tears. The ad is part of a multimedia strategy that includes a professional video team that's been capturing such spontaneous moments on the campaign trail and turning them into blog posts and, in this case, a television ad.
Nevada holds its Democratic caucuses on Saturday, and a recent CNN/ORC poll shows Clinton neck-and-neck with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. The state's minority population, which accounted for 30% of caucusgoers in 2008, will be a critical determinant of which candidate wins the battle.
