Obama to attend historic baseball game in Cuba

President Barack Obama is set to attend a historic baseball game this month in Havana between the Tampa Bay Ray and the Cuban national team.

Major League Baseball announced the exhibition game on Tuesday, the first time a major league team has played in Cuba since the Baltimore Orioles faced the national team in 1999.

Later Tuesday, MLB tweeted that Obama would be at the game, and the president's Twitter accounted confirmed with a retweet and a "play ball!"

In December, several Cuban-born players and other major leaguers visited the island on a goodwill tour.

"Americans and Cubans share a love of baseball, and this is yet another powerful reminder of the kinship between our peoples as well as the progress we can achieve when we leverage those natural ties," the White House said Tuesday.
