Social media depicts chaotic scene at Trump N.M. event
A Donald Trump rally in Albuquerque turned violent Tuesday night after protesters threw rocks, bottles and burned Trump gear. In response, the Anaheim, Calif., police chief — where Trump’s rally will be held Wednesday — issued a statement warning violence would not be tolerated.
“While we recognize and respect the First Amendment rights of all individuals to express their viewpoints and protest peacefully, we will not tolerate violence or disobedience of the law during the upcoming rally in Anaheim.” Police Chief Raul Quezada said in the statement.
While protesters at Trump’s events are hardly a new phenomenon, the events in Albuquerque were more violent than usual. Here's a look at some of the more vivid images from reporters and police on the scene:
Trump tweeted twice about the event:
The first — late Tuesday night — was a positive characterization of his rally. But by Wednesday morning he had changed his tune to acknowledge the scene — though he still attempted to separate it from what was happening at his event.
